Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, set parking brake (if possible), place wheel chocks, then raise the rear of the vehicle with a floor jack and support safely on jack stands.
- Locate the parking brake cable equalizer assembly (typically underbody near the center or above the rear axle where the handbrake cable splits to the two rear cables).
- Apply penetrating oil to any rusted clips or fasteners and allow time to soak if needed.
- Remove retaining clip(s) or fasteners securing the old equalizer and disconnect the two rear cable ends and the hand/primary cable from the old unit. Note cable routing for reassembly.
- Compare the new equalizer to the old unit to verify fit, then install the new equalizer by connecting the two rear cables and the primary cable into their respective ports.
- Secure the equalizer with supplied or existing retaining clip(s)/hardware and ensure cables are seated correctly and routed without binding or sharp bends.
- Adjust parking brake cable tension per vehicle service procedure until the parking brake lever/handle has the correct travel and both rear brakes apply evenly.
- Lower the vehicle, perform a functional test by applying the parking brake on a slight incline (or attempt to roll the vehicle with the brake engaged) and re-check for even application and no unusual noise.
