Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, set parking brake, and disconnect the battery if working near electrical components.
- Locate the speedometer cable penetration point in the firewall and remove any remnants of the old grommet by prying or pulling it out with pliers.
- Clean the firewall hole and surrounding area with a shop rag to remove grease and debris; ensure the opening is free of sharp edges or rust.
- Apply a light coat of soapy water or silicone spray to the grommet ID and the speedometer cable to ease installation.
- From the engine bay or interior (whichever provides better access), press the grommet into the firewall hole until its flange seats flush against the panel.
- Route the speedometer cable through the grommet, ensuring it seats into the cable channel or lip if the grommet has a built-in retainer.
- Check that the grommet is fully seated and the cable routing is free of tight bends or contact with sharp edges; trim or re-route if necessary.
- Reconnect any components removed and test drive to confirm proper cable operation and absence of vibration or leaks.
