Left rear frame rail assembly for 1968-1972 Chevy II / Nova vehicles, designed to restore factory rear structural integrity and correct suspension alignment. This replacement rail supports the trunk floor, rear spring/shock mounts and body attachment points, providing a durable solution for vehicles affected by rust, collision damage or wear. Precision-formed from high-strength steel and finished for corrosion resistance, it simplifies restoration work and delivers reliable, long-lasting performance when properly installed and welded in place.
Features:
- Fits 1968-1972 Chevy II / Nova models — left rear frame rail assembly
- High-strength steel construction for long-term durability
- Restores rear structural integrity and corrects suspension mounting alignment
- Precision-formed to factory dimensions for a close, time-saving fit
- Weld-in replacement ideal for rust repair, collision repair, and restorations
- Corrosion-resistant finish to help prevent future rust and deterioration
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 4/5
- Estimated time: 6-12 hours (professional or experienced DIY with welding skills)
Instructions:
- Prepare vehicle: park on level surface, disconnect the battery, raise and securely support the rear on jack stands, and remove rear components that obstruct access (rear bumper, trunk floor panel if required, axle or suspension components as needed).
- Inspect and mark: fully assess the extent of corrosion or damage and mark cut lines to remove the old left rear rail. Preserve any reference holes or brackets as needed for location.
- Cut out old rail: use a spot-weld cutter or cutoff wheel to remove the old rail. Clean mating surfaces back to solid metal and remove all rust, coatings and contamination.
- Test-fit new rail: trial-fit the replacement rail into position, using clamps and welding magnets to align it to factory reference points. Verify fit against the trunk floor, inner wheelhouse and suspension mounts.
- Tack-weld and check alignment: tack weld the rail in multiple places, re-check squareness and suspension mount locations, and adjust as required before final welding.
- Complete welds: fully weld the rail using short, controlled welds to minimize heat distortion. Allow cooling between passes, and weld all necessary seams and attachment points.
- Finish seams and protect: grind welds smooth where desired, treat exposed metal with rust inhibitor, apply seam sealer to joints, prime and paint the repaired area, and undercoat the underside for added protection.
- Reassemble: reinstall removed components (suspension, axle, trunk pieces, bumper), torque fasteners to specification, lower the vehicle, reconnect the battery, and perform a final inspection and test drive to confirm proper alignment and operation.
