Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod assembly.
- Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end threads and jam nut to ease removal.
- Loosen the jam/lock nut that secures the inner tie rod, but do not remove it yet. Count the number of turns to preserve approximate alignment.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and unbolt the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle, then separate it using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Unscrew and remove the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod to clear the assembly if necessary.
- Remove the jam/lock nut and unthread the inner left-hand tie rod end from the steering rack. Use caution not to damage rack threads.
- Install the new inner left-hand tie rod end by threading it onto the steering rack to the previously counted turns as a starting point for alignment.
- Tighten the jam/lock nut against the tie rod end to the specified torque.
- Reattach outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle, torque the nut to factory specification and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure correct toe and steering geometry.
